A Model for Integrated Qualitative Spatial and Dynamic Reasoning about Physical Systems

چکیده

Qualitative spatial reasoning has many applications in such diverse areas as natural language understanding, cognitive mapping, and reasoning about the physical world. We address problems whose solutions require integrated spatial and dynamic reasoning. In this paper, we present our spatial representation, based on the extremal points of objects, and show that this representation is useful for modeling the spatial extent, relative positions, and orientation of objects, and in reasoning about changes in spatial relations and orientation due to the translational and rotational motion of objects. Our theory has been implemented to support a magnetic elds problem solving application using the QPC and QSIM systems for qualitative modeling. The issues encountered in integrating spatial and dynamic reasoning in the context of these systems are also discussed.

Draft R EASONING ABOUT S PACE , A CTIONS AND C HANGE

Qualitative spatial conceptualizations provide a relational abstraction and interface to the metrical realities of the physical world. Humans, robots and systems that act, and interact, are embedded in space. The space itself undergoes change all the time, typically as a result of volitional actions performed by an agent, and events, both deterministic and otherwise, which occur in the environm...

A Qualitative Model of Dynamic Scene Analysis and Interpretation in Ambient Intelligence Systems

Ambient intelligence environments necessitate representing and reasoning about dynamic spatial scenes and configurations. The ability to perform predictive and explanatory analyses of spatial scenes is crucial toward serving a useful intelligent function within such environments. We present a formal qualitative model that combines existing qualitative theories about space with a formal logic-ba...

Mixed Qualitative/Quantitative Dynamic Simulation of Processing Systems

In this article the methodology proposed by Li and Wang for mixed qualitative and quantitative modeling and simulation of temporal behavior of processing unit is reexamined and extended to more complex case. The main issue of their approach considers the multivariate statistics of principal component analysis (PCA), along with clustered fuzzy digraphs and reasoning. The PCA and fuz...

An Integrated Model for Fuzzy Topology and Qualitative Distance for Discrete Space

The topological relationship of disjoint is ubiquitous in physical world, while the traditional topological relationship models do not take more considerations about it. Point set topology is exhaustive for topological relation set and rational for topological computation; nevertheless, it is not good at spatial reasoning. Although RCC5 or RCC8 is competent for spatial reasoning, it is not fit ...
